Sturgeon Fishing!!!

Sturgeon was on my bucket list for a long time, but Alec from NorthwestFishing invited me to Portland to see if we can catch some.  It was a great trip, and the weather was just beautiful all day.  We had a lot of fun and I caught my first sturgeon ever 10 minutes before we had to leave.  I overstayed almost 2 hours just so I could land one.  I was glad I waited it out.

Lynn and I headed over to Munsel for some trout fishing.  We did great.  Got our limit in a little over an hour.  We were trolling spoons - the bronze color seemed to work well that day.

Lynn caught his limit of 5 on a bronze Z-Ray, and I did really well on a Thomas Cyclone & a silver Kastmaster.

trout fishing with powerbait

I took out my son out for some late fall trout fishing.  these were mostly hold overs in the 11" range.  it was raining off and on, but that was a good thing.  there is something about being outside and seeing your son having a ton of fun that makes you forget the rain and the cold.  there was no one there but us, along with a family of ducks that hung out around us half the time.

we were bottom fishing with a carolina rig.  the first fish didn't come until about 1 hour into the trip.  from then on, it was about every 15 minutes.

I was using 2 rods: 7'6" and a 8' light action rod.  I really like that light action, it just felt perfect for trout fishing.  I actually bought it for trolling, but I think that will be my main trout rod from now on.  super sensitive and casts a mile.

I set up my son with a shimano sahara 500FE ultralight reel with 4# test mono, and a 7'6" light action rod.

the powerbait we were using were the powereggs & the powerbait dough in various colors.

overall, a trip that we'll remember for a long time to come.
