As of now, the swell looks very
good for this Saturday's Surf Fishing Championship. Have to hope
it stays like that. Oh, I got the hats in too!! Can't wait!!!
Brand
new fishing reels give away at the 1st Annual Oregon Surf Fishing
Championship on 9/22
by:
PK. 9/12/2018
An excellent
level wind reel that's perfect for saltwater and freshwater.
Shimano Sienna FE 4000.
An entry level spinning reel that's perfect for catching surf
perch on the Oregon coast. Cheap, but super reliable.
Got
4 redtails yesterday
by:
PK. 9/10/2018
Got 4 in about 2 hours.
What a slow day! Surf was perfect and wind was dead calm. At
least they will make good fish tacos. This year has been unusually
slow with surf fishing for me - not sure what it is. A stark
contrast from years past.
1st
Annual Oregon Surf Fishing Championship hat!
by:
PK. 9/7/2018
At this upcoming
tournament on 9/22, I'm going to be selling a hat and I wanted
to get people's feedback about it. Do you like it? Yes or
no?
This is a first version, and it will undergo
changes. I made the hat to let people bring home some memories
of their participation in the tournament.
At the same time, the hat will act as a promotion
for others to join as we continue to increase our attendance.
The hat will be $15 each. Please let me know
if you are interested in buying it.
Details:
mesh back, not cloth
snapback closure
6 panel cap
2 embroidered eyelets
pro stitch on crown
matching fabric undervisor
matching color sweatband
Tournament is weather dependant
by:
PK. 9/7/2018
It is important to note that
the upcoming Oregon Surf Fishing Championship will soley depend
on weather. Safety will be the #1 priority, and if the surf is too
dangerous, I will cancel it. A swell of 5 feet is about the maximum
safety zone, anything more is much too risky. I use magic
seaweed for swell reports. Please
check back to this site the night before the tournament.
Surf
fishing with my subscribers
by:
PK. 9/6/2018
I held a subscriber
get-together at Lost Creek over the Labor Day weekend. Met many
great folks there, and many caught fish too. I didn't get a
chance to meet everyone, and I apologize for that. I hope to
host another soon before I leave for Ca ....li... .... I can't
say it! ..... but anyways, stay tuned for the announcement.
Caught
a steelhead in the surf!!!!!
by: PK. 9/4/2018
Update: it's
not a steelhead, I was told. It's a cutthroat trout! Pretty cool
to be catching them from the surf. I can add this to my list of
"what fish are in the Oregon surf".
I never expected to catch a steelhead in the surf,
but I did today! he's about 13 inches, and was put back. I've seen
much bigger being caught on the surf.
9/22
tournament cookout list
by: PK. 9/2/2018
I've made a Google doc below of the items we will
need for the cookout for our surf fishing tournament up in Sunset
Beach. Please check it out, and if you want to bring anything on
that list, put your name after each item. This list is hard to do
because I don't know how many people will be coming.
Surf looks decent for tomorrow AM. Can't wait to
slay some redtails! Wind looks high, but hopefully, we will finish
by 10 or 11 (it's suppose to really pick up around noonish). If
you don't see me in the parking lot, I'll be down on the beach.
See y'all there!
THE
biggest redtail surf perch caught in Oregon
by:
PK. 8/29/2018
This is the biggest redtail surf perch ever caught
off the Oregon coast - I'm 100% confident of saying that! It was
caught by a friend. It measures 18" long,
5" thick at the shoulders, and weighs 4.75 POUNDS!
Wowza!! (the tiles in the pic is 1 foot long). That is a FULL size
grocery bag. If you see the bottom picture, you'll notice the fish's
head is about the size of his fist!
Oregon doesn't keep official weights of surf perch,
so this is the unofficial weight. Do you have a story like this
to tell? Shoot me an email, along with a photo of your biggest redtail.
New
meeting location for surf fishing tournament on 9/22
by:
PK. 8/28/2018
Update! We will meet at
a NEW LOCATION at Sunset
Beach Road parking lot. See map below. This new spot has
a public restroom, the old meeting spot didn't have one. You can
start fishing after you check in. The beach allows motor vehicles
so you can drive around. Just be careful if you have a small car,
don't get stuck!

Surf
fishing tournament @ Gearhart Beach on 9/22
by:
PK. 8/25/2018
Surf Perch Tournament at Gearhart Beach
on 9/22! This will be the last tournament of 2018! You can drive
onto the beach so that is pretty cool (south
of Gearhart beach is off-limits I believe, so don't break the law!).
We will have a cookout afterwards, plus prizes, and random drawings
so be sure to stay till the end. I will make a list for people to
help bring items for the cookout. Stay tuned.

Surf Perch Tournament Recap: Aug 18th, 2018 at Ono
Beach State Park.
It was a great day for surf fishing with both the
weather and the swells cooperating to combine for an awesome day
of surf fishing !
Check-in started at 6am and already there were
anglers waiting to sign up right at the start. 32 competitors showed
up with some driving several hours to get there meaning they got
up around 3-4am. That’s what you call dedication !
Many of the competitors stayed at Ono Beach to
fish but several opted to go to Seal Rock, which turned out to be
a good move. Fishing was very slow at Ono Beach all day with several
competitors getting skunked and very few fish caught.
However, the 1st place angler, Danh Vu,
almost limited out with 14 perch totaling over 17 lbs
of fish at Seal Rock ! The biggest fish which was a monster at 2.86
lbs was also caught at Seal Rock by Anh Vu. He
used mole crabs to entice this monster perch to bite. One angler
after trying Ono Beach left at 8:30 after zero luck and was able
to get a few fish in another place. Just goes to show you that if
they are not biting in one place, they often are at another. The
trick of course is to find that place and several anglers did by
going to Seal Rock! GOOD DECISION !
Most anglers had hip waders but a few hearty souls
braved the cold in shorts/shoes. My hat is off to those who were
able to do this as that’s tough to endure for 5 hours!
1st)
Danh
Vu - 17.24# 2nd)
Anthony Velarde - 10.74# 3rd)
Peter Nguyen - 8.93# 4th)
Ben Doan - 8.11# 5th)
Zach Brrett - 4.98# 6th)
Thanh Nguyen - 4.70# Biggest
Fish)
Anh Vu - 2.87# (New tournament best)
There were a total of 32 anglers and there were
14 catches to weigh in with several being one fish weigh-ins. There
were several catches with over 5 fish and the top getter had 14
perch.
The biggest fish went to Anh Vu
for a catch of 2.86 lbs!
That's a new tournament best! - I didn't keep
track of the previous tournament best, but I'm 100% certain there
were no fish over 2 #.
I want to thank all of the anglers who showed up
to compete and it was a pleasure to meet all of you and get a chance
to meet some of my subscribers. Without you, my audience, I wouldn’t
be able to pull these kinds of things off.
I'm finishing up the video as I write this blog.
I look forward to holding the next tournament and
am shooting September 22nd right now. Keep tuned to my YOUTUBE
channel and my website, EVERYLIST.COM for further details
and news.
